However the little master himself if sure that he had taken the catch cleanly, that it had not bounced and that it had carried.

Saying he was 100% confident of having taken a clean catch, though the TV replays were inconclusive and seemed to cast a doubt on the catch having been taken cleanly. In fact the Kiwi coach, Andy Moles was of the view that the on field umpires should have referred the catch to the third umpire. Even the batsman stood his ground for a while before departing, indicating that there was some doubt in the matter.

Sachin himself however said, "I have seen replays, and I've seen my fingers under the ball. Sometimes on camera it looks different. I was pretty much confident; otherwise I would not have appealed for it."
Coach Moles was ‘disappointed’ with the decision and made mention of the fact that the dismissed batsman was a newcomer to international cricket and was ‘desperately disappointed’ at the decision. This was not the only controversial catch of the match. There was also M S Dhoni’s low catch claimed by Jesse Ryder which was later revealed to show that it may not have carried and that the catcher was not sure either.

Sachin was quoted in the cricket news talking about several things, including his finger injury which he dismissed as not serious and the fact the received a standing ovation when he walked back to the dressing room. He said that this was probably due to the fact that the spectators though this was his last tour of New Zealand. “Maybe they all think it’s my last tour. I don’t know. I’m enjoying myself, it’s nice to have a standing ovation, and at least I can tell my children I got a standing ovation,” said Sachin.

Sachin also took the time to praise his Coach Gary Kirsten, who in his opinion was responsible for the positive atmosphere in the dressing room. “He is one guy who doesn’t lose his cool. We have had a few tough sessions too in the recent past. But he hasn’t lost faith in his players and that is very important,’’ said Sachin. The Indians have now taken a lead in the three match series.
